The national flag of the Republic of Ghana is rectangular, and the ratio of length to width is 3:2. From top to bottom, it consists of three parallel and equal rectangles, red, yellow and green, with a black Pentagon in the middle of the Yellow part. Red symbolizes the blood of martyrs who sacrificed for national independence; yellow symbolizes the country's rich mineral deposits and resources; also represents Ghana's original name "Golden Coast"; green symbolizes forests and agriculture; and black Pentagon symbolizes the Polaris of African freedom.
